Gratitude Practice 2020 Day 76: NRP + NY Times
After what has got to be one of the longest weeks....ever...SK and I broke out of jail for a bit this morning and spent some much needed time at a nearby park. Oh, the sunshine! It was a heaven sent change of pace and the fresh air truly revived us both. As she galloped, jumped, giggled, explored and ran around I slowly and steadily walked behind her indulging in a little solo un-inturped NPR catch up.
I love NPR and have been a faithful listener since my early twenties. I've got lots of favorite programs and consider many of the reporters to be good friends...don't judge.
This morning, like so many before, my frame and understanding of the world expanded a bit thanks to an excellent engaging news programs which is a joint effort between NPR and the New York Times. Grateful this morning to stumble upon an accurate developmentally appropriate informative and not scary way to talk to kids about COVID19. Grateful that this program provided a kid friendly AND scientific way to talk about viruses, pandemic and fear. Grateful for sensitive and thoughtful reporters who think both broadly and individually about how this health crisis is effecting all members of our society. Grateful for the natural curiosity of children. Grateful that I can add this article to the resources I am gathering about how to talk about the pandemic that will forever shape an entire generation of children.
If you've got kids or grandkids....or if you work with kids I highly suggest you give this a listen. God bless NPR.
