Gratitude Practice 2020 Day 37: Bright Star

In 2016, and thanks to the creative genius of Steve Martin and Eddie Brickell, the musical Bright Star opened on the big stage and the world somehow got just a little bit better. Like celery and peanut butter....like cheddar cheese and apple pie...sheer musical magic occurs when the banjo is strategically paired with Broadway. I love nothing more when two unlikely forces, independently strong on their own, are successfully paired together for a maximized output. Bright Star, an old timey banjo beautiful blue grass big time musical musical is a perfect example of this powerful pairing. I first saw this inspiring production last year when one of my talented nephews played a lead role and I've had the soundtrack on constant loop ever since. Blown away with both the high school production and the production itself. Excellent heart swelling storytelling. Music that you will end up singing for days. A compelling plot pluck full of love, heartbreak, redemption, second chances, forgiveness...it has all of the things. And the music...oh my goodness it's good. Can't name a favorite because each song is completely brilliant but I find myself mostly inspired by the big opener, "If You Knew My Story."

Tonight, gratitude is banjos on Broadway and all that is Bright Star

Below is a link to the original Broadway cast signing the entire score which I cannot recommend enough. Enjoy and Steve Martin for President!
